Bushfire Crisis News Consumption Survey
Firstly - a disclaimer:
The bushfire crisis has been catastrophic for so many people, families and communities. We’re about to talk about it from a media and news lens, and talk about it as a ‘news event’ because that’s where we can provide our unique perspective. We’re cautious that doing so may seem to be trivialising that devastation. We want to flag that doing so is not our intention. If anyone is looking to support or contribute to bushfire relief efforts, we encourage you to click this link and explore ethical ways to do so.
About the survey:
At the Youth Affairs Council of South Australia, we’re incredibly interested in how young people get their news. We’ve explored the relationships young people have with politics and democracy, and the important role of media consumption. The bushfires crisis began in September and has become an overwhelming news event since late December. Part of that news event has been the complexity surrounding trusting news and the spread of misinformation.
So we’ve created a survey that aims to capture the experience of the ‘news event’ surrounding the bushfires. We want to know how you have consumed your news surrounding the fires.
The survey is below. It should take between 2-5 minutes.
At the end are some questions about contact details - they are optional. Please fill them in if you’d like to hear more about this project as it progresses.
